Back in the day… 420 was a holiday for hippies, renegades, and gangstas.
I am from generation D.A.R.E.
D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) was a 1983 program created by Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates and the Los Angeles Unified School district. The program was an epic failure.
“Studies have repeatedly shown that D.A.R.E. was ineffective or that its effectiveness could not be proven.[3] D.A.R.E. America's operating revenue declined from $10 million in 2002 to $3.7 million in 2010 following the publication of government reports that uniformly discredited the effectiveness of the program.[4][better source needed] In 2001, the Surgeon General of the United States, David Satcher placed the D.A.R.E. program in the category of "Ineffective Primary Prevention Programs".[5]
My childhood public education included a lie. I was told that marijuana is the equivalent of smoking crack and using heroine. I was told that marijuana is a gateway drug that leads to permanent addiction to other drugs.
My dad is an O.G. stoner. He has been growing and smoking weed for all of his adult life. I hated him when I was a child because I believed what I was taught in school. I believed the things they taught me in the D.A.R.E. program. I was six-years old in 1983. I believed most things grown-ups told me. I believed that my dad was a bad man because marijuana is a bad plant.
Now marijuana is popular culture as more and more people are coming out of their hot-box closets. Newsweek posted an article today- THE BEST MOVIES TO WATCH ON NETFLIX THIS 420.
Samuel Spencer chose “Between Two Ferns” as his number one 420 pick. He wrote the article in Newsweek so I am assuming he chose the movies…. I do not know anything about this movie. I do not even know what movies are playing on Netflix.
“Between Two Ferns: The Movie takes Zack Galifianakis' awkward fake public access talk show and blows it up to feature length with an even bigger batch of celebrities than usual.”
My number one #420 movie pick is “The Big Lebowski” (most likely not currently on Netflix).
I would be watching “The Big Lebowski” this 420 holiday if Netflix has a better selection of movies to choose from. I wonder who picks the movies that Netflix decides to feature? I wonder how I can find out?
