I WOULD RATHER BE A GOLD DIGGER THAN A BROKE ASS HOE
Once upon a time I was a hoodrat hustler. I know how to get by on nothing but luck. No money. No name. Running from one time. 420 in progress. Spinning on Strawberry Hill. Petting my mad dog 20/20.
I ran away from home because home was not as safe as the streets. I ran away from home and criminals treated me better than my own mother. I ran away from home to avoid time in juvenile detention. I refused to comply. I refused to work the system.
I will go my own way. I will find my own path.
I am an entrepreneur.
I was on my own at the age of sixteen and I was better for it, mostly. Juveniles have no rights and I had a warrant out for my arrest. I was on my own, but I was shackled to my youth. I had to be both shady and industrious.
It was important to me to remain a young woman of high standard and class. I ran away to go live in the hood, but I refused to carry on in the gutters like a rat. I did not sell drugs. I did not sell my body. I committed identity theft so I could get a job at a fast food restaurant. My first job as a criminal was Burger King.
Identity borrowing. Not Identity theft. I committed Identity borrowing.
I survived and escaped my childhood because of friends and family who love me. I had a cherished friend who was nineteen. She allowed me to use her social security number to apply for jobs. She let me borrow her identity until I was eighteen. She helped me emancipate myself.
I became an adult at sixteen and to me that meant responsibility. My friend was trusting me with her good name. I would not tarnish it. I would create a civilized life for myself.
I have always been excited for my future. It is nearly impossible for me to be present. I haven’t arrived and yet here I am in the moment. I would rather be a gold digger than a broke ass hoe. Ain’t that the truth though? Except gold digger usually applies to women who are with men for their money. That’s never been my thing. I was young and poor when I got married. Love was all we needed.
Money is important though. It is a tool that allows us the opportunity to create a life of vision and fruition. We earn what we work for. It is the pursuit that earns the fruit. Unless you are a hunter who sucks ass at hunting. Money comes in handy when you need to go to the grocery store. Money comes in handy when you want to have a table to put the food on. Money comes in handy when… ( I can keep going with this, but I don’t think I need to.)
I am a women who enjoys working to create multiple revenue streams. It is a shit ton of work, but I will enjoy the fruit of it in years to come. Consistency is the key to investing. Then comes work and more work.
